Our History
Sahabat Wahana Alam (also known as Trunk n Twig) is a foundation that was founded
in August 2024 by a young girl with a deep passion for nature and love for elephants.
Despite their intimidating size, elephants have gentle eyes, warm smiles, playful nature,
and other charms that make them so easy to love. Not only their adorable traits and
characteristics, they also play a vital role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystems
as ecosystem engineers and gardeners of the forest.
Despite their importance and lovable nature, many elephants face heartbreaking
challenges such as malnutrition, habitat destruction, human-wildlife conflict, and the risk
of extinction due to poaching and deforestation. While some species of elephants are
considered secure and expanding, numbers are continuing to fall in other areas,
particularly for Asian elephants where the populations have dropped by at least 50%
over the last three generations (Elephants | WWF, n.d.).
Seeing this struggle ignited a mission—one that became Trunk n Twig. This foundation
was created not just out of love, but out of urgency: to raise awareness and gather
support for elephant welfare and conservation efforts. Through fundraising and creative,
eco-conscious initiatives, the foundation hopes to give back to the animals that give so
much to our planet.
